Day 6 : Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate


I. Have. The Flu.

Well...the keto flu. It’s when you’re dehydrated and your missing fluids took all your electrolytes with them. I tapped into the niKETO community and they suggested I try broth.

I’m finally putting my slow cooker to use today because I decided to make the chicken broth for myself and use the meat for meal prep the next few days. It smells amazing.

Because of how exhausted I felt last night I was thrilled when my niKETO Exogenous BHB powder got delivered this morning. I mixed a scoop of the chocolate truffle flavor, a cup of ice, a spoonful of coconut oil, and a splash of iced coffee in my blender and basically made a keto mocha. You guys, it was good.

I feel sluggish enough to skip yoga, so I started taking the electrolyte supplements I’ve been avoiding. Obviously, I’m the type of person who hates taking pills, that should be apparent by now: I am the epitome of path of least resistance.

The electrolyte supplements I take are made up of three minerals: magnesium, potassium, and phosphorous. These nutrients are leached out of the body during the transition into ketosis when your body start shedding excess water; this is what causes the flu-like symptoms I’m experiencing today. To balance my nutritional deficit and dehydration symptoms, I am taking electrolytes, drinking water and homemade chicken broth, and of course, taking the exogenous ketones that will hopefully speed this process up.
