11 best keto treats to crush that craving

“Mmmm, something sweet sounds good right now… but I can’t, I mustn’t! All three of you musketeers, take your friend peanut butter cup and get outta here!” Some version of this thought has, at some point or another, entered the mind of anyone living the Keto lifestyle. Deny, deny, deny that you even like sweets. You can pretend all you want, but you can’t lie to your cravings. You’ll only find yourself writing poetry to cupcakes and holding yourself back as your finger hovers over Triple-chunk fudge ice-cream’s speed dial. Sweets are so ingrained in us that they’ve invaded our subconscious. Have you had a carb dream yet? If not, you will. (Although, waking up dripping with sweat after you’ve dreamed about eating your best friend whole because they’re made out of German chocolate cake should really be classified as a nightmare). Keto is all about the fat, and fat is wonderful, but once in a while Fat needs a buddy: Sweet! Well, we’re here to tell you to go ahead and cave, give into the sweet from time to time, but do it the right way. Here is our list of the 11 best options for sweets while on keto that won’t kick you out and won’t make the fat jealous.

1. Dark Chocolate covered Almonds

Blue Diamond has them in 100 calorie packs with only 3 grams of net carbs. Easy for a drawer snack at work or on your way out the door.

2. Strawberries and Raspberries

Berries are your buddy. Half a cup of Strawberries has only 3.3 net carbs and Raspberries are around 4.2 at a half cup. Wash them, slice them, and park it on the couch for a fast snack while you flip through Netflix unable to decide what to watch.

3. Whipped Cream

And Whip it good! Heavy whipping cream, all Keto-ers know about heavy whipping cream and should have a supply on hand at all times. But it’s more than coffee creamer. It’s a great dessert: whip it up, add a few dashes or drops of stevia, some cinnamon if you’re feeling fancy, and bam, light fluffy dessert for about 4 carbs per half cup!

4. Sugar Free Gelatin

They’ve made this one so easy it almost makes you want another step. Single serving cups: rip the lid off and eat. 10 calories and -even though the leading brands say zero carbs- the cups have about 1.5 carbs each.

5. 90% Cocoa Dark Chocolate

For you chocoholics, 90% cacao dark chocolate is going to save you: 3 net carbs per square. Munch on it for a quick fix or melt it and pour it on the berries so you can pretend like you’re sitting on the throne of your own small, island nation.

6. Fat Bombs

F-Bombs as they are sometimes known, aren’t as violent or rude as they sound; quite the opposite actually. When you try these things you’ll wonder why world peace has eluded us for so long… but you might let out a swear of amazed disbelief under your breath. F Bombs are small and powerful desserts, a little bigger than bite-sized but packed with flavor. The added benefit of these guys is they have an excellent amount of fat to help you hit your fat goals while satisfying your cravings. You can find them ready to eat HERE or in countless recipes online.

7. Mug Cake

This one is super easy but it’s on the high side of carb intake, so be sure you have about 9 carbs to spare for this dessert.

  • 1 Coffee Mug

  • 1 large egg

  • 2 tbsp. salted butter

  • 2 tbsp. almond flour

  • 2 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1 ½ tbsp. sweetener of choice

  • 2 tsp. coconut flour

  • ¼ tsp. vanilla extract

  • ½ tsp. baking powder

Melt the butter in the mug then toss the rest in on top. Mix it to a thick paste and microwave for about a minute.

8. Parfait

Yes, it’s possible. Layered, rich, fruity parfait. What’s that? You don’t believe it? Checkmate. Chocolatey or Vanillay - Your choice.

9. Smoothies and Shakes

Cold, drinkable desserts are a staple in the universe of sweet, and many on Ketoers abandoned the idea a long time ago. But, like most things keto, if you’re dutiful, you can have what you desire. Choose your ingredients carefully and keep a good accounting of the macros going into your blender and you can enjoy a nice fruity smoothie or rich shake. Or, let someone else do the work.

10. Kombucha Teas

You’ll have to be careful with these as many of the leading brands have added sugar, but as long as you are a good ketoer and read your labels, you can find some very tasty Kombuchas out there in the 10 carb per pint range. In addition to helping crush the sweet, Kombuchas have probiotics that aid in gut health and can help manage diabetes.

11. Ketoucinnos – Coffee drinks on Keto

Let’s face it, we love our coffee drinks. And no, that doesn’t mean just a good, ol’ cuppa Joe. Those fancy coffees with the cream and the froth and the mmmm, those, we Ketoers want those. But we don’t have to miss them. Coffee is inherently okay on keto and there are options. Ketoucinnos have all the flavor and good stuff about the coffee drinks we miss minus the sugary carbs we don’t want.

And there you have them, our favorite, caving-busting, keep-you-from-ripping-your-hair-out treats for the Keto dedicated.
